Do you have your own retail store in Brisbane? Are you satisfied with the retail space that you have, or is it too small?

Smart business owners know the importance of choosing the right location for their retail shop. This means that prime locations like inner Brisbane City are difficult to get. You might be able to rent retail space in a good part of the city, but it might be small and expensive. You will be at a disadvantage if your competitors have bigger retail space. Size does matter!

Retail Strategy will help you make the most of your retail space with our clever retail shop ideas.

Retail Design Idea # 1: Create a skylight or windows.

Include a skylight in your retail design to make your small shop look bigger.A small retail store can look dark and gloomy when it’s an empty tenancy. So open up your retail space by adding a skylight or windows. Your merchandise will appear fresher without ongoing costs.

A skylight will let natural light into your shop during daytime. You can save on electricity as a result, and the view of the sky will make your small shop seem bigger. There are two types of skylights: fixed units and venting units. You have to use a special rod to open up a venting unit, altbut if you just want to bring more light into your retail space, you can use a fixed unit. You can make your skylight waterproof and prevent leaks by using a factory flashing kit.

You can also cut windows in your walls so that your customers won’t feel cramped while shopping. You can even turn your walls into large glass panels. If you do this to your shopfront, you can create attractive window displays that will draw in more customers.

There are different types of display windows for retail stores. For small shops, semi-closed windows and open-back windows are more appropriate. A semi-closed window is half-covered at the back, so people who pass by can see your display through the window, and they also get a partial view of your retail store’s interior. An open-back window does not have a wall at the back, so passersby can clearly see your window display and your shop’s interior through the glass panel.

If your small retail store doesn’t have windows and you are not allowed to create them, you can install faux windows instead. Faux windows look like window frames with a view to the outdoors. They can trick people into thinking that they are looking at a garden, forest, beach or city through a window.

Most faux windows use printed digital images. However, if you want hi-tech faux windows that are simply amazing, you can use virtual windows instead. Virtual windows are plasma monitors that run on custom software. They use Kinect to track the movement of people, so the scenery changes in relation to the person moving closest to the virtual windows.

Retail Design Idea # 2: Install mirrors.

Incorporating floor length mirrors in your retail design will make your small shop look bigger.Mirrors are very effective in making a room look bigger. Installing floor length mirrors in tight spaces will give the illusion of more space. Place floor length mirrors between display shelves in your retail store. Put a large mirror behind a display table. To bring the arrangement together, make sure that the mirror matches the width of the table.

Grouping several mirrors together will form a pattern on a wall or accentuate the arrangement of wall decorations. Mirrors can create the illusion of windows. You can do this by attaching window panes to large mirrors or hanging curtains around floor length mirrors. Your retail store can have a mirror wall, but be careful how you do this. A mirror wall should be used as a design element or else it will look strange and feel disorienting.

Keep in mind how the mirrors in your retail store reflect light. Install mirrors near a light source so that light will bounce off them and illuminate your shop. Mirrors can make your retail store look bigger by giving the illusion of more space and distributing light inside it.

Retail Design Idea # 3: Choose a light palette.

Use a light color palette in your retail design to make your small shop look bigger.Choosing a light palette for your interior design will make your shop look spacious and comfortable.

Dark colours will have the opposite effect. For example, you can pair light green or blue colors with neutrals like white, gray or beige.

Use bright tones if you want to use bold color.

Apply accent colors and bright colors below eye level, while light colors and neutrals should be above eye level.

If your retail store’s ceiling and trim have the same color, and you paint them one shade lighter, you can add height to your retail space while removing visual breaks at the same time.
